Education
Costs: Given Forseia's many special needs, friends of New Hope
have been able to secure a place for Forseia at the Moreson School,
a boarding school capable of working with children with special needs.
As the Moreson School is privately funded, New Hope needs additional
funds to help pay these costs which include tuition, fees, room, and
full board.
Live-in
Caregiver: Although Forseia's school can work with children with
special needs, Forseia still needs additional care to help him with
changing his nappies (diapers), ensuring that he follows his physical
therapy regime, helping him learn greater intellectual and motor skills,
and working him towards ever greater levels of independence. Click
on the following links to view copies of Forseia's nanny' monthly
checklist and hiring memo.
Physical
Therapy: Forseia began physical therapy in April 2003. Staff estimate
that it costs New Hope about $60 per week for the cost of the
physical therapist as well as for the costs of transporting him and
his caregiver to the therapists and back twice each week.
Speech
Therapy: Along with Forseia's needs for physical therapy, Forseia
needs speech therapy to help him overcome speech difficulties that
he likely developed from not speaking enough to adults when young.
Living
Expenses: During holidays and long weekends Forseia will return
to a foster care family, and his foster family will need additional
assistance with the extra day-to-day expenses needed for Forseia's
care. This includes money for food as well as money for diapers and
associated sanitary products. These last expenses, of course, are
needed every day, year-round. Click here to see a list
of items we were able to send with Forseia to begin his stay at
the Moreson School.
Medical
Costs: Children
with Forseia's condition have special medical care needs including
(but not limited to) havng his "shunt" monitored and repaired
if it becomes blocked. In addition, some of the symptoms associated
with spina bifida may be alleviated through sugery. Unfortunately,
this surgery is not currently available in Namibia. WE WOULD LOVE
the opportunity to have Forseia examined to see if this type of
surgery could help further minimize some of his disabilities. This
could truly enhance the quality of Forseia's life, and we strongly
encourage anyone with the resources or contacts to help make this
happen to contact us.
